Realcold are once again the principal sponsor at the 2015 IRHACE
Wallie Askew Memorial Workskills Competition. This is the 10th year
in the competition's 17 year history that Realcold will be
sponsoring the competition. Realcold's Technical Manager, Dave
Nicholl's has been organising and running the practical side of the
competition since 2008.
The season kicked off last night in Christchurch and continues
round New Zealand throughout April. Each region has 2 - 4
refrigeration apprentices competing to earn a place in the New
Zealand final which will be held at the 2015 IRHACE Conference in
Christchurch in May.
The competitors have to undertake 3 practical tests and 1 theroy
test over a 3 hour timeframe. The regional winners will then
compete in the national final, which is a challenging two day
The national competition last year was won by Richard Taylor
from Nelson. As part of his prize he joined the Realcold team at
ARBs in Melbourne in May 2014. This year Realcold will be donating
the main prize and contributing a significant amount of man power
and tools to ensure the competition's continued success.
The Wallie Askew Competition is named after the IRHACE presdient
Wallie Askew who served from 1974 - 1982. He was awarded a
lifetime membership for his achievements during his service. He was
a strong supporter of IRHACE, the HVAC&R industry and
apprentice training. The competition began in 1999, 10
years after his tragic death.
